TIP #3: Soft Emboss

a. Open PHOTO-PAINT 8 and create a new RGB image, 300x95 pixels, 72 pixels per inch (dpi).

b. Select the Type tool and with the Render Type to Mask option disabled (check the Property Bar), type the word "Emboss." For this example, we used Crillee Italic at 96 points. The text color at this point does not matter.

d. Invert the mask (Ctrl+I) and then create an object from a copy of the selection (Ctrl+UpArrow). The new object should look like a stencil of the original text. See Figure 3.

e. With the stencil object selected, open Cutting Edge F/X and scroll to the PuffPillow effect. Change the effect color to R128 G128 B128, leave the other options set to the default values, and apply the effect as a new image. Keep the Cutting Edge F/X dialog open.
